On Saturday, March 12, 2016 the Channel Islands (CA) chapter of The Links, Incorporated (CIC) collaborated with the AAUW (American Association of University Women) in their Annual Brighter Horizon Math, Science and Technology Conference benefiting 578 students. CIC believes that it is beneficial to partner with other community-based organizations that share a similar platform. Implementing key partnerships improves the community’s awareness of these resources which should increase the reach and better impact the students within the Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.

The Brighter Horizons Conference nurtures students’ interests in S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering and math) subjects to encourage them to consider careers in these fields. Students in 5th to 9th grades were invited to choose 3 different workshops with each being led by professional women who are experts in their field. Workshops included hands-on activities that demonstrated key concepts associated with S.T.E.M. related careers. All of the workshops are aimed at elevating student interest in topics including Forensic Sciences, Entomology (study of insects), Veterinary Medicine, Chemistry and Biochemistry.
